Not Necessarily Interesting News

I got a new toy last weekend. A sparkly new Apple iBook. I’ve been playing with it for a week now and love it. OSX rocks. I’ve been able to install and run some of my favorite Linux tools on it also. It has been running rock-solid the whole time. My only real gripe is the lack of a second(and possibly a thrid) mouse button. Yeah, I know pressing ‘Crtl’ and clicking does the same thing, it’s just a pain. I also got an Airport card to go with it and a wireless router for home. Now I can sit anywhere in the house and work on it, even way out in the back yard in my son’s treehouse.
It talks real nice with my 20GB iPod that I got as a gift a few weeks ago. iTunes makes loading music to it a snap. I’ve loaded all my music to it and am only using 7GB of space. I need more music I guess. Anybody got any suggestions on good bands? I listen to everything for Louis Armstrong to Barenaked Ladies to Eminem. If it’s a decent band I’ll give it a listen.

My sister got tickets to an advance screening of The Italian Job, again at our favorite movie house, The Alamo Drafthouse. It was better than I thought it would be. It was of course a commercial for the Mini Cooper. The car I wanted and planned to get before I had to get a 4WD Ford Explorer for work. I still want one but I think they’ll be hard to find after this movie is released. My sis is looking for one right now. The nearest dealer is in San Antonio. She figures if she’s gonna get it she better do it in the next few days before the movie is released and they become impossible to get.

Saw Matrix Reloaded Not bad. Not as good as the first. The 10 minute dance scene was uneeded. The theater we go to, The Alamo Drafthouse has keypads built into the armrests so you can play trivia before the movie. They were doing Matrix trivia. I won over everyone in the packed theater. Free movie tickets. Nice.
Those keypads also have a button very near and dear to my heart, the beer button. Press it and more beer is delivered. Even Nicer.

A self-described gay gun-nut keeps track of pro and anti gun newsstories in a table on his blog. The media claims to be unbiased but fails to report news fairly. Is anyone really surprised?

Here in Austin a girl was stabbed to death at school and no mention of it was heard outside Central Texas. But one person brings a gun to school in their car and it’s national headlines.

Popular Science has a story about a guy who buildsminiature crime scene dioramas. They have everything from the dead body to blood spatters on the walls. Use a blacklight and you can see the blood and semen stains. Pick up the tiny paper to read the date. Dents in the dolls heads match the base of a lamp in the room. Cool stuff.

When can I get one of these at Toy ‘R’ Us?

Looks like crybaby Democrats have gone into hiding to prevent a quorum in the House because they aren’t getting their way. They did this once before in ’79. The Dems jerrymandered districts when they had the majority and Repubs didn’t do this, they stayed and fought. I don’t vote for either party but this is just plain dirty.

Our Texas legislature meets for 100 days every two years. Many Texans think it should be the other way around.

If you read this story about a woman who held a gun to her kids head you’ll get an insight into how stupid the media really is. Look at the picture of the woman. In her hand is what is obviously a Glock pistol. I should know. I own one. Now, read the story again. In the second paragraph they say she ‘pointed a stolen police revolver at her son’s head.’ Oum, someone with even a basic knowledge of firearms knows that what’s in that picture ain’t no revolver.

Stan Pike, a homeowner in Avondale Estates, Georgia, got fed up when dealing with the town’s Historical Preservation Commitee after they rejected his request to add a new front stoop. To get back at them he hired a couple of guys to paint his house lime green with purple polka dots. He plans on adding toilet/planters filled with flowers to the front yard. The city is desperatley trying to find a code to force him to repaint his house but has had no luck.

This is an example of why I hate HOAs/POAs. You get a couple of power-mad people who get off on telling folks what they can and can’t do with their house. I really like this guy’s style.

An Associated Press story from this morning says that129 people were sucked out of an airplane when the rear door of the cargo plane they were flying in came off. Hard to believe, but okay. The thing that I wonder about is the statement from the Congo Defense Minister saying he was unaware of any deaths among the 200 people aboard.

I think you can safely assume that at least a couple of those 129 people didn’t magically sprout wings and fly safely to the ground there, bud.

Everyone’s favorite hunter, Ted Nugent, responded to the idiots calling for his head after he supposedly made racist remarks on a Denver radio station earlier this week. If you read this Washington Post article it says he ‘used derogatory racial terms for Asians and blacks’. It mentions nothing of the context in which the words were used. (In case you’re wondering the words were Japs, Gooks, and Niggers. We at NNIN.net aren’t afraid of words.) If you read this other article at the Rocky Mountain News you get a little more behind what what said. If you read Nugent’s response you’ll see he wasn’t being derogatory to anyone.

Yeah, the media is unbiased. Just ask them.
