CowboyYesterday I was driving home from work and passed a ranch that’s near my house. As I cruised past at about 65MPH I caught an image out of the corner of my eye. Occasionally you’ll see one of the ranch hands out riding the fence. Yesterday I saw one riding along at a slow clip. The best part was he was on a cell phone. By the time I got turned around to try to get a picture he’d turned down a path into the ranch and all I got was his back. I’d have probably been able to make money selling a photo like that. Maybe next time.

having been laid off as a “real” regular employee, I had 2 boxes once and that was the most I had. Most of it was books and manuals I bought myself to teach myself how to program stuff they needed done. One coworker was escorted out without being able to get anything because she freaked out and started screaming at people. Nice.

it’s never easy.

i think the scaled down ready to roll lifestyle of the contractor pays off in that you throw your backpack over your shoulder with your lamp and one manual you brought in for reference, and you shake hands and walk out. kind of like Strider in LOTR. travel light, get outta town.

Good luck with your search. Keep us posted, and if you wanna come to MA and help me tile, feel free!

cheers, happy new year — may 2006 pay off nicely with good change.
